Our Philosophy
Long time believers in the power of words (as a minister and a journalist), the joy of raising a 'spirited child' has brought home to us most deeply the importance of lifting up children by affirming them in their unique nature and the nature of childhood, itself.
Three years in business as artisans of natural toys at Beneath the Rowan Tree has honed our commitment to honouring children and doing all that we can to nurture a common life in family and community that encourages children to grow up slowly and with respect and responsibility for themselves, their community and the earth.
Our new clothing line is designed to honour our kids.
So often children are burdened with labels and met with attitudes that diminish them and trivialize the things that matter to them. Grow up. Don't be silly. That isn't possible. Stubborn. Loud. Heedless. Fairies aren't real. You never listen.
We protest.
Childhood is a journey, not a race.
Silliness is good for you. Yes, you!
ANYTHING is possible
Persistence, expressiveness and confidence are excellent traits that will serve you well in life.
Fairies, moon monsters and dinosaurs that live in the garage are real to a child.
It can be hard to listen when you are so busy wondering and dreaming, observing, exploring and learning about the world around you.
We have chosen the seed heavy dandelion as our logo for the joyous tradition of making a wish (and believing it can come true!), the subversiveness of this act (spreading the glorious yellow 'weeds') and the potential of every seed borne on the wind... Daydream Believers is developed for all of the dreamers and wonderers, wanderers and hopers... and the grownups who love them (and who can dream and wonder, too!).
